APPENDIX to the minute of meeting of the Education Committee of 22 April 1997 (Article 5 refers)

MINUTE of MEETING of the ATTENDANCE SUB-COMMITTEE of the EDUCATION COMMITTEE held in 7 The Cross, Forfar on Tuesday 22 April 1997 at 11.00 am.

Present: Councillors BRIAN MILNE, GLENNIS MIDDLETON and GEORGE NORRIE and Mrs JACQUELINE SIM and Mrs EILEEN CAMERON.

Councillor MILNE, Convener, in the Chair.

1. EXCLUSION OF PUBLIC AND PRESS

The Sub-Committee resolved in terms of Standing Order No 27(2) that the public and press be excluded during consideration of the following matters so as to avoid the disclosure of information which was exempt in terms of Part 1 of Schedule 7A to the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, Paragraph 5.

2. REQUESTS TO EDUCATION CHILDREN AT HOME

The Sub-Committee considered requests from parents to withdraw children from school and to educate them at home and dealt with them as follows:-

(a) Case 1/97

After considering Report No 465/97 by the Director of Education, the Sub-Committee approved the request submitted by the parents to educate the child at home, subject to the requirement that they continue to provide efficient education for him and that appropriate officers of the education authority be given the opportunity to monitor his progress.

(b) Case 2/97

After considering Report No 466/97 by the Director of Education the Sub-Committee approved the request submitted by the parents to educate the child at home, subject to the requirement that they continue to provide efficient education for him and that appropriate officers of the education authority be given the opportunity to directly monitor his progress.

(c) Case 3/97

After considering Report No 482/97 by the Director of Education, the Sub-Committee approved the request submitted by the parent to educate the child at home, subject to the requirement that efficient education be provided for her and that appropriate officers of the education authority be given the opportunity to monitor her progress.
