MINUTE of MEETING of the TEACHERS GRIEVANCE AND PREMATURE RETIREMENT SUB-COMMITTEE OF THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE held in the Town and County Hall, Forfar on Tuesday 9 June 1998 at 3.45 pm.

Present: Councillors BRIAN M C MILNE, KATHLEEN RITCHIE and GEORGE NORRIE.

Councillor Milne, Convener, in the Chair.

1. EXCLUSION OF PUBLIC AND PRESS

The Sub-Committee resolved, in terms of Standing Order No 27(2), to exclude the public and press during consideration of the following item in order to avoid the disclosure of information which was exempt in terms of Part 1 of Schedule 7A to the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 (paragraph 1).

2. TEACHERS (COMPENSATION FOR PREMATURE RETIREMENT) (SCOTLAND) REGULATIONS 1980

(a) There was submitted Report No 608/98 by the Director of Education on a request from a teacher to be allowed to retire early for the reasons referred to in the Report.

The Sub-Committee approved the terms of the Report and agreed that the member of staff be refused premature retirement with enhancement on the grounds of the efficient exercise of the authority’s functions, but that she be advised that, should she wish to retire without enhancement, premature retirement would be granted.

(b) There was submitted Report No 607/98 by the Director of Education on a request from a teacher to be allowed to retire early for the reasons referred to in the Report.

The Sub-Committee approved the terms of the Report and agreed that the member of staff be refused premature retirement on the grounds of the efficient exercise of the authority’s functions, in accordance with the Council’s policy.
