MINUTE of MEETING of the CONTRACT SERVICES COMMITTEE held in the Town and County Hall, Forfar on Tuesday, 21 April 1998 at 4.00 pm.

Present: Councillors WILLIAM CROWE, WILLIAM DOIG, Mrs RENATE LAMONT, STEWART McGLYNN, WILLIAM MIDDLETON and SANDY WEST.

1. MINUTE OF PREVIOUS MEETING

The minute of meeting of this Committee of 17 March 1998 was approved as a correct record and signed by the Convener.

2. THE VETTING AND SUPERVISION OF ADULTS WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

There was submitted joint Report No 408/98 by the Director of Social Work, the Director of Recreation Services, the Director of Cultural Services, the Director of Education and the Director of Personnel making recommendations for vetting procedures for staff and volunteers working for Angus Council who had substantial access to children and young people. The Report had been prepared after full consideration of the Public Inquiry by Lord Cullen and addressed (a) the definition of "substantial access to children and young people under 16 years of age"; (b) the identification of posts which offered such access; (c) the essential elements of a vetting procedure; and (d) a review of existing procedures against requirements.

The Committee agreed, for its interest, to note the contents of the Report and approve the recommendations set out in Article 10 of the minute of meeting of the Social Work Committee of 21 April 1998.

3. LEISURE FACILITIES USAGE FIGURES APRIL 1997 - MARCH 1998

With reference to Article 5 of the minute of meeting of the Contract Services Committee of 15 April 1997, there was submitted joint Report No 413/98 by the Contract Services Manager and the Director of Recreation Services setting out usage levels for the various Council leisure facilities operated by Angus Contract Services for the period from April 1997 to March 1998.

The Committee noted the terms of the Report.
