APPENDIX I to the minute of the meeting of the Education Committee of 4 June 1996 (Article 2(i) refers)

MINUTE of MEETING of the SPECIAL CASES SUB-COMMITTEE of the EDUCATION COMMITTEE held in the Town and County Hall, Forfar on Tuesday 23 April 1996 at 4.25 pm.

Present: Councillors BRIAN MILNE, WALLIE LEASK and GEORGE NORRIE.

Also Present with the Concurrence of the Sub-Committee:

Provost Mrs FRANCES E DUNCAN.

Councillor MILNE, Convener, in the Chair.

1. EXCLUSION OF PUBLIC AND PRESS

The Sub-Committee resolved to exclude the public and press during consideration of the following matters to avoid the possible disclosure of information which was exempt in terms of Part 1 of Schedule 7A to the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, Paragraph 3.

2. PROVISION OF SCHOOL TRANSPORT

(a) Inverarity Primary School

There was submitted Report No 272/96 by the Director of Education indicating that, for several years, children residing in the Cotton of Ovenstone area had transport provided to Inverarity Primary School provided with the pick up and drop off point being at Holemill.

Subsequently, other children had moved into a nearby address and, in 1995, in an attempt to rationalise the transport route, the pick up/drop off point had been relocated.

However, concern had been expressed that the road which children were now expected to walk to and from the pick up point was unreasonably dangerous and representations had been made that the pick up point be amended.

The Sub-Committee agreed that, in light of the safety considerations, the pick up/drop off point be reinstated at Holemill.

(b) Langlands Primary School

There was submitted Report No 266/96 by the Director of Education regarding a parental request to amend the drop off point for children living at Loanhead Farm, Forfar for whom school transport was provided.

After hearing the Director of Education regarding recent developments the Chief Constable, and the local member, the Sub-Committee agreed that consideration of this matter be deferred pending further consideration of the options available.
