MINUTE of MEETING of the APPEALS SUB-COMMITTEE of the PERSONNEL AND PROPERTY SERVICES COMMITTEE held in the Town and County Hall, Forfar on Thursday 24 October 1996 at 10.00 am.

Present: Councillors ROB MURRAY, WILLIAM MIDDLETON and THOMAS YOUNG.

Councillor MURRAY, Convener, in the Chair.

1. EXCLUSION OF PUBLIC AND PRESS

The Sub-Committee resolved that the public and press should be excluded during consideration of the following matters so as to avoid the possible disclosure of exempt information as defined in Part I of Schedule 7A to the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 (paragraph 1).

2. EDUCATION DEPARTMENT - APPEALS AGAINST DISMISSAL

The Sub-Committee considered appeals against dismissal submitted by three employees of the Education Department:-

(i) Case 1

After hearing submissions by Mr Hugh Robertson, Head of Client Services (Personnel), Mr John Begley of the GMB on behalf of the appellant, the Sub-Committee found that the grounds of the appeal had not been substantiated and accordingly agreed that the appeal be not upheld;

(ii) Case 2

After hearing submissions by Mr Hugh Robertson, Head of Client Services (Personnel) and Mr John Begley of the GMB on behalf of the appellant, the Sub-Committee found that the grounds of the appeal had not been substantiated and accordingly agreed that the appeal be not upheld;

(iii) Case 3

After hearing submissions by Mr Hugh Robertson, Head of Client Services (Personnel), Kate Leiper of UNISON, and the appellant, the Sub-Committee found that the grounds of the appeal had not been substantiated and accordingly agreed that the appeal be not upheld.
