Walks 2 & 12 - Jock's Road - Glen Doll to Braemar - Thursday 30 May & Saturday 1 June

(Please download the PDF map (2 MB) if the 3D map does not display in your browser)

Jock's Road is a well-known high-level route across The Mounth. Leaving from the car park the first 3.5km follows forest road and paths as it climbs gradually into Glen Doll. Once out of the forest, the glacier carved valley bounded by rocky cliffs of around 310 metres gives the walk a true mountain experience. After climbing for 1.5km the path levels off below Cairn Lunkard and Davy's Bourach (a basic shelter) is a few metres ahead. Beyond the shelter the path over the plateau to Glen Callater is very exposed and reaches a high point of 920 metres on Crow Craigies. Shortly after there is a very steep descent down to Loch Callater followed by good tracks by the River Callater to Auchallater.

NB: This walk demands a high level of fitness.

Full hillwalking gear required.

Please bring a packed lunch and snacks.
