Angus Glens Walking Festival 2019

Walk 9 - Rocks of Solitude - Friday 31 May

(Please download the PDF map (2 MB) if the 3D map does not display in your browser)

This walk starts in the village of Edzell and follows a linear route, mostly on woodland paths alongside the River North Esk. A short way above the Gannochy Bridge the river crosses the Highland Boundary Fault. This area is an important SSSI: for its unique geology, remnants of ancient woodland along the river bank and rare lichen and moss species found growing in area of the gorge walls. The walk ends at the Blue Door next to the Gannochy Bridge. Entry is free, but donations are welcomed. There will be a visit and tour of the Burn House and its grounds to learn about the history of the late 18th century mansion built by Lord Adam Gordon, including two of his follies, Doulie and Gannochy Towers.

Full hillwalking gear required.

Please bring a packed lunch. Refreshments at the Burn House.
